English name: Blue Dream

Scientific NameNeocaridina Heteropoda var. "Blue"

Origin: Selectively bred color mutation of Davidii Shrimp.

Size male/female: 0.8 inch / .9 in

Water temperature:68-78F

Water Parameters: pH 6.2 - 7.8

Breeding occurs about once every 2 months, they carry the eggs for about 3 weeks. Generation time is about 3-5 months, depending on the temperature. There will be no breeding if the temperature is too low. Breeding Blue Dream Shrimp is very easy as long as the tank water is clean and there are no harmful conditions. If this species is happy and healthy than it will breed readily, almost as fast as the Red Cherry Shrimp. Blue Dream Shrimp require virtually the exact same conditions as the Red Cherry Shrimp, Yellow Shrimp, and Snowball Shrimp.

Water Parameters

Blue Dream Shrimp prefers slightly alkaline to medium-hard water but are like other Neocaridina species in that they are easily adaptable to various conditions. Temperature can range from 68F-86F. Make sure that there is enough dissolved oxygen in the water if the water is warm.

Very rare and beautiful neo-cardinia shrimp. Care is the same as a cherry shrimp and just as prolific.

    So happy with my shrimp!!!

Posted by Neiloy on 31st Dec 2018

I used to breed cherry shrimp back when they were starting to take off and purchased high grade red, yellow, orange and blue varietals all from APB. Quality and service were and still are fantastic. It's incredible how well such a niche business can operate.

I am now back in the hobby with these beautiful Blue Dreams and I love them! Super dark blue and very very healthy and active. All arrived perfect.

Thank you! I will continue to support you

    Beautiful blue deams...

Posted by Esther on 17th Dec 2013

Like Ron and other reviewers noted, they were quite dark, when I first got them. I got these along with 5 CRS and 5 CBS and they were very active and healthy in the tank. With time, some turned partially blue with chocolate brown color on top, some stayed black and one turned pretty saphire blue. Unfortunately, I suffered some loss of the blue dreams shrimp because I used Mosura Eros breeding aid, which is primarily for the CRS and CBS. All the CRS and CBS are fine and thriving; however, only 2 blue dreams survived. One that looks saphire blue and the black looking female, but she is berried! After contacting Ron, I learned that I should be very careful when using the Mosura Eros, as it has powerful stimulants. As advised, I stopped using Eros and the 2 remaining blue dreams shrimp are surviving ok. Hopefully the berried one will make it, as well as the shrimplets. Please learn from my experience. The blue dreams shrimp are beautiful though, although the colors varied per shrimp.

Ron is always so patient, takes his time to explain and advises me on how to care for the shrimp even though many months have passed since I bought these shrimp. He has a loyal customer for life! Thanks, Ron.

    Blue Dreams ?

Posted by John on 8th Nov 2013

I received 7 Blue Dreams 2 sub-adults and 4 tiny baby's . All were very dark almost black when the came in. Anyway I still have all 7 and well they are chocolate brown now minus the two sub-adults (now adults) have somewhat blue sides but brown backs .
Don't expect the shrimp you see in the picture and you won't be disappointed.

From APB Blue dreams can take a while to acclimate to a new tank and the colors to become vibrant. It is our experience they will sometimes have beautiful blue babies before there colors will restore to their true form.

    Blue Dreams

Posted by Heather on 15th Oct 2013

My son wanted blue shrimp and the color of this species online was remarkable. They arrived healthy and happy and larger than expected. Ron informed me that the blue on these guys is dark at first and with time should lighten up. They were almost as dark as the black substrate when they first got here, but many have already begun to turn a brighter shade of blue. A few present with chocolate brown color with blue undertones, but Ron assures me that is normal and they will continue to lighten up. I am not sure what cross breeding occurred to make the blue dreams, perhaps chocolates help to make this incredible blue color these guys have and that is why some present that way. I trust Ron and these guys are awesome so I will have to see how they do over time. I have had them less than a week and they are beautiful as is, but I do believe they will continue show their true colors as they adjust to their new tank. Really incredible shrimp, pleased with my purchase. Will post again after they settle in.
